The game uses a side-scrolling perspective and supports solo play or two-player co-op. Stages are built around waves of enemy soldiers, vehicles, set-piece hazards, and a boss at the end. Rescued prisoners grant items, weapons, or score bonuses, and several Slug vehicles can be driven for extra firepower and protection. Most enemy waves appear from fixed positions, so repeated practice and route knowledge greatly improve survival. When using a Slug vehicle, take advantage of its special attack and avoid staying inside just before it explodes.
