Metal Slug 4 is a 2002 arcade run and gun developed by Mega Enterprise and published by Playmore. Created during the transition period after SNK's bankruptcy, it keeps the series' fast side-scrolling shooting, comic animation, and vehicle combat while adding the Weapon Stock System and a cyber-terrorism theme. Reception was mixed because of reused assets, but it still delivers solid co-op arcade action.

The game uses a side-scrolling perspective where one or two players fight through multiple stages using pistols, heavy machine guns, flame shots, rockets, and grenades against soldiers, turrets, vehicles, and bosses. Its main addition is the Weapon Stock System, which lets players hold certain special weapons for later use. Slug vehicles return, and players can jump, crouch, toss grenades, rescue prisoners for items, and progress stage by stage to the final mission.

Marco Rossi

A classic series protagonist known for direct assault and balanced combat ability.

Tarma Roving

A PF Squad member with strong mechanical and vehicle skills.

Trevor Spacey

One of the new playable characters, a Sparrow agent investigating a terrorist threat.

Nadia Cassel

A new playable character partnered with Trevor on the cyber attack investigation.

Rescue prisoners whenever possible for weapon drops and score bonuses. Save strong stockable weapons such as rockets or lasers for minibosses and bosses instead of spending them on basic infantry. Vehicles are powerful but fragile under concentrated fire, so abandon them before they explode if survival is more important. In co-op, spread out to cover different firing lanes and reduce the chance that both players get trapped by the same attack pattern.

User Reviews

It still feels fast and fun, especially in two-player co-op.

User Reviews

The new system is useful, but recycled content makes it one of the more divisive entries.
