Use the D-pad or analog controller for movement and plane changes; use the face and shoulder buttons for punches, kicks, throws, special moves, power attacks, menus, and confirmation. The loaded release provides English and Japanese language data.

Choose a fighter and battle through one-on-one matches in arenas with foreground, middle, and background lanes. Use punches, kicks, throws, special moves, power attacks, and lane changes to control distance and break the opponent's defence. Arcade, versus, and story-style modes offer different progression goals, while the ring boundary makes positioning a major part of each fight.

Use the three-plane movement to evade a projectile or approach from an unexpected lane, but return to the main plane before attacking so the opponent cannot punish the transition. Learn one reliable anti-air, one throw setup, and the timing of the power gauge. Keep the opponent near the edge only when a ring-out opportunity is real; otherwise preserve your own escape route.
