Contra III: The Alien Wars

The game mainly plays as a side-scrolling shooter, with a few top-down stages mixed in for variety. Players control Bill Rizer or Lance Bean, firing their default weapon and collecting power-ups that change the arsenal into spread, laser, flame, and other weapon types. Characters can jump, crouch, cling to surfaces in some scenes, and use vehicles or heavy weapons during special sequences. Progress is stage-based, and surviving often depends on memorizing enemy patterns, managing weapon drops, and keeping pressure on bosses while avoiding dense projectile attacks.

Protect strong weapon pickups whenever possible, especially spread-style weapons that help clear crowds. Learn when to crouch, jump, and short-hop to dodge low and mid-level fire. In boss fights, watch attack cycles first and then push damage during safe windows. In overhead stages, keep moving and prioritize enemies that spawn or fire continuously.

No widely accepted, reliable official cheat codes are commonly documented; progression is usually based on normal play and score chasing.

Tips and tricks

• Do not risk a life just to chase a weapon upgrade if the screen is already crowded.
• Mid-range positioning is often safer in boss fights because it balances offense and evasion.
