Sonic & Knuckles 3

The game uses a side-scrolling perspective with high-speed platforming. Players can choose Sonic or Knuckles, each with distinct movement abilities: Sonic excels at fast rolling and boosted speed, while Knuckles can glide and climb walls to access alternate paths. Stages are filled with springs, hazards, enemies, and secret areas. Rings act as both health protection and a gateway to special stages. In the special stages, players must turn blue spheres red to obtain Chaos Emeralds, unlocking powerful transformations after collecting all seven.

Sonic

The main hedgehog hero, extremely fast and strong in momentum-based movement.

Knuckles

Guardian of the Chaos Emeralds, able to glide and climb walls; initially clashes with Sonic.

Tails

Sonic’s ally, appearing as a supporting character in parts of the game.

Dr. Eggman

The main villain, using machines and traps to seize the Chaos Emeralds.

Keep as many rings as possible so a single hit does not end your run. Look for wall edges, ceilings, and spring traps, as many shortcuts and secrets are off the main route. In special stages, plan your movement early and avoid leaving hard-to-reach blue spheres for the end. With Sonic, use rolling momentum to keep speed; with Knuckles, use glide and wall climb to bypass danger and reach hidden paths.

Tips and tricks

• Learn each zone’s branching paths; many of them are safer than the obvious route.
• In special stages, the goal is to turn every blue sphere red, so leave room to maneuver.
• Rolling before entering tight enemy groups is usually the safest approach.
