Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

The game uses a 2D side-scrolling perspective focused on free exploration of Dracula's Castle. Alucard fights with swords, shields, spells, familiars, and sub-weapons while gaining experience, equipment, and relics. New forms such as bat, mist, and wolf unlock previously inaccessible areas. Progress is driven by map completion, hidden rooms, warp points, shops, bosses, and multiple endings, encouraging backtracking and careful route planning.

Alucard

Dracula's son and the main protagonist, who enters the castle to prevent his father's return.

Richter Belmont

A legendary vampire hunter whose mysterious actions drive the central conflict.

Maria Renard

A young ally searching for Richter and helping Alucard uncover the truth.

Count Dracula

Lord of the castle and the series' recurring main antagonist.

Death

Dracula's loyal servant who strips Alucard of his starting gear early in the game.

Learn movement options early, especially backdashing, jump attacks, and efficient sub-weapon use. Activate warp rooms as soon as you find them to reduce travel time. Check suspicious walls, ceilings, and floors, since many upgrades are hidden behind breakable surfaces. After gaining bat, mist, and wolf transformations, revisit older areas to improve map completion. To reach the true ending, obtain the Holy Glasses and destroy the green orb controlling Richter instead of defeating him normally. Later on, raising Luck and farming strong equipment can greatly smooth out the inverted castle.

Enter "RICHTER" as your name on a new game after clearing the game once

Unlocks Richter Mode, allowing you to play through the game as Richter Belmont.

Enter "AXEARMOR" as your name on a new game

In supported versions, unlocks Axe Armor Mode and starts the game as Axe Armor.

Obtain the Holy Glasses and destroy the floating green orb during the Richter battle

Unlocks the inverted castle and the true ending route.

Tips and tricks

• Open save points and warp rooms early to make castle exploration much faster.
• Familiars can provide useful combat support and sometimes help reveal hidden possibilities.
• The inverted castle is much tougher, so stock healing items and stronger armor before committing to it.
