Thunder Force III

Players pilot a fighter through side-scrolling stages filled with enemy waves, terrain hazards, and boss battles. The game features a pre-stage weapon select system, allowing different loadouts for specific routes and threats. Standard weapons include a main shot, charged attack, and specialty options such as spread or homing fire. Some stages switch to top-down or multi-directional scrolling, demanding quick route reading and careful positioning. Progress is stage-based, with power lost on damage in many situations.

Learn enemy spawn points and terrain changes so you can fire in advance and avoid getting cornered. Choose homing-style weapons for unfamiliar stages and spread-style weapons for clearing crowds or close-range boss damage. Against bosses, stay at a safe mid-range and focus on removing the most dangerous attack patterns first. In scrolling-heavy stages, memorize safe lanes and do not chase every pickup if it puts you into danger.
