Developed by Sonic Team and published by SEGA, Sonic Advance is Sonic's first original game on the Game Boy Advance. It keeps the classic 2D speed-platforming formula while adding new moves such as the wall jump and multiple playable characters. With colorful zones, tight controls, and multiplayer racing modes, it is widely regarded as one of the stronger handheld Sonic entries.

The game uses a side-scrolling view and lets players choose from Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, or Amy. Each character has unique movement abilities: Sonic focuses on speed, Tails can briefly fly, Knuckles can glide and climb walls, and Amy attacks with her hammer. Stages are built around collecting rings, defeating enemies, navigating platforms, and reaching the goal ring. Many routes include springs, boost pads, hazards, and hidden paths. Progress is based on clearing zones and unlocking additional modes and challenges after completion.

Sonic

The main character, built around fast running and momentum-based movement.

Tails

Sonic's partner, able to fly briefly to reach higher areas.

Knuckles

Specializes in gliding, wall climbing, and breaking through obstacles.

Amy

Uses a hammer for attacks and plays differently from the other characters.

Learn each character's movement traits, since many secrets and alternate routes depend on wall climbing, flying, or gliding. Keep some rings at all times to avoid losing momentum after taking damage, and watch the terrain ahead during high-speed sections so you can react to springs and traps. When a stage branches, try the upper route first, as it often contains more rings and safer rewards.

No reliable universal cheat codes or unlock conditions are listed.
