The game uses a third-person 3D perspective and puts players in control of Tommy as he moves through house-based environments, jumps, climbs, and interacts with objects. Progress is driven by collecting Reptar puzzle pieces, triggering story events, and clearing stage objectives. Some stages are exploration-focused, while others are compact mini-games with simple rules. Careful observation and finding interactive items are key to advancing.

Search the edges of each room, especially around furniture and corners, because important pieces are often hidden in plain sight. Learn each mini-game's objective before trying to optimize your run, and do not rush through dialogue or event triggers. If progression stalls, recheck interactive objects and sequence-based switches in the current area.

In larger areas like the nursery, living room, and kitchen, making a full loop around the room can quickly reveal missed items.
