R-Type

The game uses a horizontal scrolling viewpoint with one-player progression through tightly designed stages. You control the R-9 with standard shots, movement, and a charge shot that can be released for heavier damage. The signature Force pod can attach to the front or rear of the ship, act as a shield, or be detached to attack independently. Stages mix enemy waves, environmental obstacles, and large boss battles, and losing a life usually means restarting from a checkpoint with limited resources.

Keep the Force pod positioned to maximize both offense and protection, especially in sections with dense fire. Learn enemy spawn points and boss patterns because many encounters are designed around memorization and precise timing. Use the charge shot on sturdier targets, but do not tunnel vision and ignore small threats closing in from the sides. After a death, focus on regaining control of the screen quickly before the next wave overwhelms you.
