Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team

The game uses a top-down dungeon-crawling view with turn-based movement, where each step or action advances both allies and enemies. At the start, a personality quiz determines the player’s Pokémon, then the player teams up with a partner to accept rescue jobs and enter procedurally generated dungeons. Combat combines basic attacks, moves, items, and traps, while team formation, type matchups, inventory management, and retreat timing all matter. As the story progresses, more facilities and recruitable Pokémon become available.

The protagonist

A human transformed into a Pokémon, controlled by the player and defined by the opening personality test.

Partner Pokémon

The fixed early-game companion who joins the protagonist and helps carry the story and rescue missions.

Train the protagonist and partner’s most reliable moves first, and keep broad type coverage in the party. Before entering a dungeon, bring enough food, healing items, and status cures to avoid getting stranded by hunger or ailments. Against strong enemies, don’t hesitate to retreat and use items or traps to control the fight. When trying to recruit rare Pokémon, clear nearby threats first to improve your chances.

Tips and tricks

• Try to keep your partner close so the team does not get separated and surrounded.
• PP management matters a lot, so always keep at least one dependable attack for long runs.
• Before risky floors, check whether you have escape and recovery items in your bag.
