Metro-Cross is a 1985 arcade action-platform game by Namco. Players guide a fast-moving runner through urban obstacle courses, racing against the clock to reach each goal line. Its angled perspective, constant forward momentum, and focus on timing made it stand out from more conventional platformers of the era. The game is remembered for combining score attack arcade design with route memorization and a strong sense of speed.

The game uses an angled side view while the runner automatically moves forward. Players mainly control left and right movement, jumping, and timing over hazards. Stages are filled with cans, springboards, pits, moving blockers, trap panels, and slowdown zones that affect speed and remaining time. Reaching the end of each course before time runs out is the main objective, and time-extending items are especially valuable. Later stages become denser and more technical, rewarding memorization and smooth movement.

Runner

The unnamed athlete controlled by the player. He is defined less by story than by his agility and speed through the game's hazardous urban courses.

Learn the locations of hazards that break your rhythm, especially pits, knockback traps, and awkward landing zones. It is usually better to keep a safe line than to chase every score item. Position carefully before hitting springboards so your landing stays clean. Extra-time pickups are often more important than pure point items. In later stages, preserving momentum and avoiding stumbles matters more than risky play.
