Move across an overworld map, choose stages, collect coloured orbs, and clear platforming areas before facing bosses. Before ordinary stages the player can select Chiaki or child-form Zenki; boss encounters transform Zenki into his stronger demon-god form.

Strategy
Inspect the map for branching routes, learn the movement of bottomless pits, and choose the character whose reach or mobility suits the stage. Keep a save before a branch or boss because the route can make later stages harder to revisit.
