Arkanoid is a 1986 arcade block-breaker developed by Taito that expanded on the Breakout formula with power-ups, stage variety, and a distinct sci-fi alien presentation. Players control the Vaus paddle to bounce a ball and clear colorful bricks from the screen. Its responsive controls, escalating challenge, and polished design made it one of the most influential arcade titles of its era.

Each stage is played on a single screen. The player moves the Vaus paddle left and right along the bottom to keep the ball in play and direct it into bricks above. Certain bricks release power-ups such as paddle enlargement, slow ball, laser shots, or multiball. Losing the ball costs a life. Clearing all bricks advances to the next stage, which may introduce tougher layouts, barriers, and enemy patterns that demand precise positioning and timing.

Try to catch beneficial power-ups, especially paddle enlargement and ball slowdown, but avoid risky items when the ball is moving too fast. Hitting the ball near the paddle edges creates sharper angles, which helps target side walls and upper rows. In dense layouts, focus on opening lanes first so the ball can spend more time in the brick field. With multiball, keep track of the safest ball rather than chasing all of them.
