Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition

The game uses an overhead world map and turn-based battles. You move through towns, routes, caves, and dungeons, challenge trainers, capture wild Pokémon, and build a party of up to six. Pikachu is your fixed starter and follows the player on the field, while battles focus on move selection, type matchups, leveling, evolution, and item use. Progress is driven by earning Gym Badges, defeating the Elite Four, and completing the Pokédex.

Train a balanced team early so you can handle Rock, Ground, and Grass threats around Kanto. Keep healing items and status-curing items stocked for longer routes and caves. Use type advantages to conserve PP and reduce damage, and weaken rare Pokémon before throwing Poké Balls to improve capture odds. If Pikachu’s Electric attacks are resisted, switch to another team member rather than forcing a bad matchup.

• Pikachu’s speed lets it act first in many early battles.
• Carry at least one Pokémon that can deal with Ground-type enemies.
• Save before rare encounters if you want a better chance at catching them.
