The game uses top-down exploration and turn-based battles. Players can travel freely between regions, challenge gyms, collect badges, catch Pokémon, and build a team of their choice. Compared with the original, progression is more non-linear, allowing earlier access to multiple areas and repeated gym rematches, plus new Elite Four content. Battles rely on type matchups, move selection, team building, leveling, evolution, and item management.

Characters
Player character
A customizable trainer who progresses through regions, battles gyms, and advances the journey.
Lance
A famous Dragon-type trainer who appears as a late-game opponent.
Gym Leaders
Regional leaders who must be defeated to earn badges and progress.
Strategy
Build a balanced team early so you can handle a wide range of type matchups. Since progression is open-ended, it helps to start in a region you know well and raise your core team before tackling tougher gyms. Keep healing items and status cures on hand, and use speed and type advantage to control difficult battles. Revisiting earlier areas for rematches is an efficient way to gain experience and supplies.
