Golden Axe

The game is a side-scrolling action brawler with stage-based progression. Players select Ax Battler, Tyris Flare, or Gilius Thunderhead, each with different reach, speed, and magic strength. Combat uses attacks, jumps, throws, and positioning to handle groups of enemies. Some foes can be knocked off rideable creatures, which grant special offensive moves. Magic is powered by collecting pots from thieving gnomes, and casting it can clear crowds or heavily damage bosses. Between stages, camp scenes lead into the next chapter of the journey.

Ax Battler

A sword-wielding warrior with balanced abilities, fighting to avenge his mother.

Tyris Flare

A warrior skilled in fire magic; she has the strongest spells but less dominant melee power.

Gilius Thunderhead

A dwarf fighter armed with an axe, shorter in reach but sturdy and powerful.

Death Adder

The tyrannical ruler who kidnaps the king and princess and serves as the main villain.

Try to keep enemies on one side of your character to avoid being surrounded. After knocking foes down, be careful approaching immediately, as many recover with a counterattack. Tyris is excellent for beginners because her magic can erase dangerous waves; save it for dense encounters or bosses. Ax is the most balanced choice, while Gilius rewards confident close-range play. Always chase the blue thieves that carry magic pots, especially during the camp intermissions. If you get a beast, use its special attack to control groups safely.

Tips and tricks

• Save high-level magic for crowded screens or boss fights instead of spending it early.
• If enemies close in from both sides, jump out and reset your position before attacking again.
• Rideable beasts are extremely useful for crowd control, so protect them when possible.
