The game uses a side-scrolling perspective in which the hummingbird flies freely up and down while shooting enemies and avoiding environmental hazards. Stages feature narrow passages, traps, and dense patterns of incoming fire, so positioning and timing are essential. Some sections ask the player to defend life forms or destroy specific targets before advancing. Progress is linear through themed areas, with each stage increasing pressure through enemy placement and obstacle density.

Stay near the center of the screen when possible so you can react to threats from above and below. In tight sections, prioritize survival over aggressive firing and clear safe paths first. If a stage includes protect-the-target objectives, move close to the objective and intercept enemies near their spawn points. Learning enemy patterns and stage layouts greatly reduces damage and makes later sections much more manageable.
