Developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo, this tactical RPG is the first Fire Emblem title officially released for Western audiences. Players follow Eliwood, Hector, and Lyn across the continent of Elibe as they uncover a war-driven conspiracy. It keeps the series' strict turn-based strategy while adding a helpful tutorial structure that made it especially approachable for newcomers.

The game uses top-down grid-based combat. On each turn, units move, attack, use magic, rescue allies, or seize objectives. The weapon triangle matters: swords beat axes, axes beat lances, and lances beat swords. Magic and bows also have distinct tactical roles. Characters gain experience and level up, and some classes can promote into stronger forms. Maps ask players to defeat commanders, survive ambushes, protect allies, or reach a target within a turn limit. The series' permanent death system remains in place, so positioning and resource management are crucial.

Eliwood

A noble young lord and the main protagonist of the first part of the story, driven by duty and the search for the truth behind his father's fate.

Lyn

A quick-witted sword fighter from the Sacae plains, serving as an important early protagonist and tutorial guide.

Hector

A bold and powerful lord from Ostia who becomes a major viewpoint character later in the game.

Nils

A wandering bard whose harp can enhance allies' actions and whose role becomes essential to the main plot.

Ninian

A mysterious dancer with a hidden connection to the game's darker forces and central mysteries.

Build a few reliable combat units and a dedicated healer early instead of spreading experience too thin. Keep spare weapons on hand because durability can be a problem in long maps. Use terrain bonuses, rescue, and pairing up to protect fragile units. Mounted units are excellent for repositioning, objective control, and emergency rescues. Against tough enemies, weaken targets first and finish them with accurate units or effective weapons.
