Strider II is a side-scrolling action platformer developed by Tiertex and published by U.S. Gold for the Sega Genesis. Players once again control Hiryu, a futuristic ninja who cuts through enemy forces, traps, and difficult platforming sections. It continues the sci-fi ninja premise of the original series entry, but its reception was mixed and often compared unfavorably with the arcade classic.

The game uses a side-scrolling viewpoint focused on jumping, climbing, sliding, and close-range attacks. Hiryu moves quickly across platforms and fights through enemy soldiers, hazards, and environmental obstacles. Stages are mostly linear, with an emphasis on timing jumps, reading enemy placements, and surviving narrow ledges and trap-heavy areas. Progress is stage-based, with each completed area leading to the next.

Hiryu

The protagonist, a futuristic ninja operative who infiltrates enemy territory alone.

Learn enemy spawn points and platform spacing before pushing forward aggressively. Use movement to control space, especially in narrow sections where trading hits is costly. When the screen becomes crowded, clear the nearest threats first and keep momentum rather than stopping in place. On difficult jumps, prioritize safe positioning over speed.

Fast-paced action with very punishing stage design.

A divisive sequel, but its futuristic ninja atmosphere still stands out.
