You travel across Kanto as a rookie trainer, choosing a starter Pokémon and building a team through captures, evolution, trading, and move management. Battles use turn-based command menus with type matchups, status effects, and speed order playing major roles. Progress is driven by earning Gym Badges, defeating the Elite Four, and unlocking the Sevii Islands after the main story.

Player character

The trainer controlled by the player, starting the journey from Pallet Town.

Professor Oak

The Kanto professor who gives the player the first Pokémon and the Pokédex.

Giovanni

Leader of Team Rocket and a major antagonist in the main story.

Elite Four and Champion

The final opponents who test the strength of the player’s team.

Build a balanced team early so you can handle a wide range of type matchups. Keep status moves and healing items handy, especially for gym battles and the Pokémon League.
