Field position, downs, time, and play selection shape progression within each match; success depends on recognizing the situation and choosing a suitable formation or play.

Use short, reliable plays when a first down is more important than a long gain. Mix runs with passes so the defense cannot predict the next call, and avoid forcing throws into coverage. On defense, switch to the defender nearest the ball and approach from an angle rather than chasing directly behind the runner. Protect the middle of the field, watch for passing patterns, and consider field position before attempting a risky play.
