Front Line is an early arcade-style shooter developed and published by Taito, later ported to the NES. Set in a military combat scenario, it puts players in control of a lone soldier pushing through enemy territory with a rifle and grenades while taking on infantry, armored vehicles, and fortified positions. Its straightforward pacing and tough action made it a memorable example of early 1980s run-and-gun design.

The game uses a top-down, forward-advancing structure. Players move through enemy lines while firing the rifle at infantry and throwing grenades at tougher targets such as vehicles and defensive emplacements. Progress is driven by pushing deeper into each battle zone and surviving enemy resistance. Positioning matters a lot, since open ground leaves the player exposed, so short movements, careful timing, and selective use of grenades are key to clearing stages.

Soldier

The player-controlled main character, a lone infantryman tasked with breaking through enemy defenses and capturing forward positions.

Use the rifle on basic enemies and save grenades for armored or stationary threats. Advance in short bursts instead of rushing straight ahead, and clear the most dangerous enemies first to reduce pressure. When facing heavy fire, reposition to the edge of the combat area and attack from safer angles. Learning enemy placement is the best way to improve consistency.
