Elnard

The player explores an overhead world map, visits towns and ruins, and investigates the seven continents connected to the central crisis. Battles begin on the field and switch to turn-based combat, where the active hero can attack, cast magic, defend, use items, or attempt to recruit another playable hero. Progress depends on gaining levels, buying equipment, learning and improving spells, and collecting the runes needed to advance the story. The chosen protagonist changes the early route and available rival encounters. Password-based continuation is used instead of battery-backed cartridge saving.

Recruit or defeat rival heroes carefully, because their levels and equipment make these encounters unusually dangerous. Use magic and healing before difficult continent bosses, and keep multiple passwords recorded after important story progress. Since enemies can become much stronger as the adventure advances, revisit towns to replace outdated equipment before entering a new ruin or continent.
