The game uses a 2D side-view and turn-based match structure. On each turn, you control one worm, moving, jumping, aiming, and firing within a time limit before play passes to the opponent. Maps feature uneven terrain and water hazards, so falling, explosions, and drowning all matter. Success depends on judging distance, wind, and terrain while gradually reducing the enemy team's health to survive last.
Worm teams
The playable combat units, organized into squads. Each worm can move, jump, and use a variety of weapons during its turn.
Try to secure high ground for safer positioning and better firing angles. Before using explosive weapons, consider whether the terrain collapse may cause your own worm to fall. Enemies near water are prime targets for knockback attacks, since forcing them into water is often more efficient than dealing direct damage. Because turns are timed, decide on your weapon early to avoid wasting movement.
Tips
Wind affects arcing weapons, so make small test shots when possible.
Tips
High ground offers strong offense, but it can become dangerous if the ground beneath you is blasted away.
Tips
Area-damage weapons are especially effective against clustered enemies.

Simple to understand, but surprisingly demanding when it comes to angle and timing.

The Game Boy version keeps the core appeal of the series and works well for quick sessions.
