After Burner II

The game uses a third-person chase perspective as players pilot an F-14 Tomcat through 18 stages of aerial combat. You steer, climb, dive, and fire a machine gun and homing missiles at enemy fighters, missiles, and ground targets. Progress is linear and relentless, with each stage pushing faster enemy patterns and tighter reaction windows. Refuel checkpoints and high-speed pursuit segments break up the combat and demand precise movement.

Stay near the center of the screen so incoming enemies and missiles are easier to track. Use the machine gun for close targets and save missiles for distant or evasive foes. During refuel segments, make only small adjustments to avoid missing the tanker. Against larger targets, focus on survival first and attack during clear firing windows.

• Track missile paths early; last-second evasions are much harder in later stages.
• Short bursts of movement are safer than constant large swings of the jet.
